Rockfall Mitigation
Soil Nail Launcher, Inc. engineers and geologist have been involved with rockfall research since the late 1960s and performed the early research in developing the Colorado Rockfall Simulation Program (CRSP). Our specialized fleet of equipment, including crane basket drills, allows us to extend our design-build-warranty service to rockfall mitigation and rock slope stabilization across the nation.
Virginia DOT had severe ongoing rockfall problems that would block access to the Philpot Dam facility. Following an event that left some unstable rock still on the high rock cliff, VDOT asked Soil Nail Launcher, Inc. to review the site and to assist in resolving the dangerous situation. SNLI engineers and technicians utilized crane-hoisted man baskets to get a close look at the rock and then crane supported drills to install an array of rock bolts. Galvanized steel mesh was attached to the bolts in some areas to retain smaller surface rocks.
